Robin Boylan of Arden, North Carolina served on the Western Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association Board of Directors from 2017 until his death in 2021. Robin’s beloved wife, Barbara “BB” lived with the disease after being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s in 2011. Robin was BB’s primary caregiver until her passing in 2018. Serving as the Asheville Walk to End Alzheimer’s Committee Chairman for three years consecutively, Robin’s passion for the cause raised record totals in the fight against Alzheimer’s and his personal team, ‘BB’s Buddies’ collectively raised $140,000 over his years of involvement with the Asheville Walk. Additionally, Robin served as a Western North Carolina Chapter delegate for the National Alzheimer’s Association Community Leadership Summit and handled multiple media interviews to spread awareness of the Association and our work within the community.
Robin’s daughter Katharine Fuchs of Charlotte, North Carolina and her personal walk team Krewe BB has collectively raised $57,000 over her years of involvement with the Charlotte Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Katharine has additionally served as an Alzheimer’s Congressional Team member for District 9, participated in numerous interviews about her family’s journey and the Alzheimer’s Association, and played an active role on the volunteer team that worked on the inaugural year the Alzheimer’s Association was selected as the beneficiary of The Queen's Cup Steeplechase. During her mother’s seven year journey with Alzheimer’s disease, Katharine used her blog Southern Bourbon Mountains to share her story and experiences - reaching audiences far beyond her friend and work groups - about the disease and passion to #ENDALZ.
Through the Association’s different venues of funding to support research, care and support, the Boylan/Fuchs families have raised $206,000.
